Chicago: Jennie + Matt

A while back I was in Chicago (my favorite US city) to shoot Jennie and Matt's engagement portraits. Check out their save-the-date that Jennie just sent me. I think it turned out awesome-nice work from Minted, a great place for paper products.

New York

After the past few months on the road, my travels are finally slowing down.I have a couple more short road trips over the next week and then a break (finally). Recently Andrew, Mike and I headed out to NYC for PhotoPlus Expo. It was nice to see how the workflow at Malone & Co. (and GJP) are really in line with many of the top pros out there. Check out the gallery of images from the city here.

I need to give my client Peter and Stephanie a huge thanks for letting us crash at their place! Andrew and I will be heading to the British Virgin Islands in February to shoot their wedding.

Templeton Rye

A few weeks ago while shooting in Iowa the locals told us about a distillery that was brought back to life from the prohibition era. We headed over to Templeton, home of Templeton Rye Whiskey where Kevin gave us a private tour. There is some cool history about this whiskey including that this was Al Capone's favorite. If you're ever in the area you should stop by and then go pick up "The Good Stuff".

Peter + Stephanie in Miami

I've got so many shoots to post! Back in August I connected with Peter & Stephanie in Miami for an engagement shoot. Peter and Stephanie are getting married in February in the British Virgin Islands in which Andrew and I will be shooting their wedding.

New Camera

So I'm going back to my roots and shooting some film. Yeah right, but I do love Polaroid. Too bad they're stopping film production soon. Check out Save Polaroid for some great info and links.

Andrew got me excited earlier this year with his Holgaroid. I bought one too and then while searching Ebay for film, I found a Polaroid Land Camera 350. It's Rangefinder that shoots pack film (full frame 3 1/4 x 4 1/4) that you can still find. There's even some 667 out there that's rated at ISO 3000. I can't wait to break this in on Saturday at the Wedding Event of the Year. There will be about 10 of us shooting and Andrew has made me the official media coordinator.

Humphrey, NE: Angela + Brent

Myself along with Andrew Marinkovich and Ben Drickey came fully loaded to cover it all at Angela's wedding last week. Congrats to Brent and Angela- thanks for the great day! You are going to have plenty of images to look through!

Coach Carroll at USC

This past June Lora Davis and I headed out to LA for a shoot at USC. The 8 minute session was a record for shortest amount of time allowed.

Check out the behind the scenes video over at Malone & Company.

Krazy Kids Day

Last weekend I opened up the studio for Kids Day. We had a blast shooting while raising some money for Operation Smile. The images below were created using our homemade ring light. What fun!

We'll be having our next session in the spring of 2009. If you're interested please sign up here.

Something is coming

All of us here at the studio are waiting for the full moon coming this Wednesday. There are many rumors speculating of something new from our friends at Canon. We're hoping this thread is correct. Did you read that part about the video?

Save a horse, ride a bull

Last week I was shooting the nightlife scene at Legends in Kansas City. The Saddle Ranch comes to life with everyone wanting a ride on the mechanical bull.

Wedding: Kari + Brandon

Two weeks ago we shot one of the most amazing weddings here in Omaha. Andrew Marinkovich and Alyssa Schukar assisted in the record shooting of 12,000 images. The amount of detail that went into this wedding was off the charts. Chicago's Gentlemen of Leisure Band was incredible-I've never seen the entire dance floor covered with everyone for the entire night.Be sure to check out the slideshow.

Kids Day

Many of you know I only shoot weddings and commercial, but twice a year I offer portrait sessions to my close clients, friends and family. I call it Kids Day. I really have a lot of fun doing these, so I'm opening it up to anyone interested. My next session will be held September 6th. Click here to sign up.

I'm doing things a bit differently this time- I'm charging a $50 session fee which will go to Operation Smile. It's a really great cause!

Check out some kid-friendly images here.

Alabama & New Orleans

Earlier this week Anne and I spent a few days in the south visiting my sister and brother-in-law. Our first stop was Fairhope, Alabama where I grabbed a few images from the local barber shop. We then headed over to New Orleans before coming home. I was pretty bummed out that A Gallery for Fine Photography was closed. This gallery in the French Quarter has one of the best photographic collections in the US including one of my favorite photographers Henri Cartier-Bresson. Of course we had to grab some beignets at Cafe du Monde. Check out the gallery of our journey.

LeeAnn & Bill

Thought I would share a few images from a recent shoot with LeeAnn and Bill. We captured a few out at Lake Zorinsky and then headed downtown for some street shooting.

ONE Magazine

I shoot a good amount of editorial work with Malone & Company. Here's the ONE Magazine cover I shot of Architect Tom Allisma, who's worked on Roja, Blue, and Bianco. I shot the cover image at the new Parliament Pub in Legacy.

Taylor + Steve

Yesterday had to be one of the nicest weather days I've experienced for a July wedding. It was perfect! Kameron Bayne helped me shoot Taylor and Steve's wedding at Saint Vincent de Paul with their reception at Champions Run here in Omaha. Click on the image to see the slideshow from the day.

Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational

This past weekend Malone & Company shot the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational. All the big names were there including six-time gold medalist Michael Phelps. Later this month Omaha will be hosting the Olympic Trials.

Here's a few images I captured during the 4 days of competition.Click on the image below for the gallery. Mike Malone rented the Canon 500mm which was awesome for getting those tight shots.

Old School

After 5 years of not shooting any film products, I've gone back to film (kinda). Andrew Marinkovich showed me his Polaroid back for his Holga camera. I used to take my Holga everywhere with me and even dismantled one by removing the shutter so I could shoot at night. That was many years ago though. Since Polaroid stopped making type 80 films and are stopping all film production in 2009, it's really hard to find. After a few days of research I found some at Unsaleable, a company based in Austria. They have this really awesome Chocolate Film that has a sepia look to it. I even found this website called Save Polaroid which is kinda cool.

The idea is to shoot a series of 10 images at selected weddings (it's expensive since I'm buying in Euro) and then mount into a book for the couple. It's a cool thing to give them after shooting with them all day. Plus, since we're in the digital age with slideshows and blogs this is old school instant. Now my only problem is finding more Polaroid. I just ordered 15 packs of Viva Color which I can't wait to shoot with.

2 Weddings: Sara+Brian & Nisha+Joe

My wedding shooting finally started this weekend with 2 amazing weddings. On Saturday Lara Adkins shot Sara & Brian's wedding with me. Lara brought along her extension tube for some really great macro images. It took me back to the 4x5 film days.

On Sunday, Andrew Markinkovich from Malone & Company along with Kameron Bayne from KBI photographed with me at Nisha & Joe's wedding. We hit a record amount of shooting with a total of 8000 images.

Let the editing begin!

Perfect Storm

Angela and I were shooting at Dana College through Malone & Company yesterday and had a rush session with some of the athletic teams. After a bit of scrambling to figure out what the look would be, we finally decided that portraits would be a better solution than action due to time. With the help of mother nature, the thunderstorm that was moving in offered a dramatic background for the soccer and football images we captured.

Missy & Andrew [Chicago]

The past few weeks have been crazy and I've been meaning to post some images from a recent shoot in Chicago. Here's where I've been the past month: LA, Napa, Chicago, Iowa City,Home,Des Moines, and now I'm back on the road to Kearney, NE.

I scheduled my shoot with Missy and Andrew (they live in Chicago) a few months ago and booked a second shoot for a commercial client through Malone & Company.

Missy and Andrew gave me lots of time for the shoot. We shot most of the day and managed to get in some night shooting. The total tally was 34GB worth of images (I'm still editing). Along the way they treated me to lunch and a great dinner at A Mano.

Check out the gallery of a few favorites.

Napa

Last weekend Anne along with Mike and Patty headed to Napa. Our reservations panned out at The French Laundry and wow, what a place. Many of you know that I'm a pretty plain when it comes to food, but I tried it all-including Caviar. I think my favorite was the lobster tail along with the 4 desserts! Last week was all about new food experiences-2 days before I tried sushi for the first time at Sushi Roku while shooting in LA.

Of course along our journey we hit many wineries. We went back to Niebaum-Coppola, now called Rubicon Estate. Anne and I were there 4 years ago.

Check out more images here!

Baseball

I've been on assignment this week at USC, University Hospital and got a chance to shoot these triplet baseball players. I love their shoes! Of course this image need to be tweaked just a bit, so I had to give it some "old school" magic.

Mike Malone was gracious to let me break in the new monster, Canon 1DS Mark III. At 22MP this camera can handle anything that comes our way.

Foto Cabina

I meant to post this a while ago. Everywhere I went at WPPI there was a really hip photo booth, called Foto Cabina.

I'd love to see one of these at a wedding!

Below is Julie Morris from Grand Island and Shane and Erin Melenbacker from Kearney.

Las Vegas

I just got back from WPPI in Las Vegas and will post more images. Here's a couple images from the spectacular sunrise yesterday morning while flying from Vegas to Phoenix.

Don't Steal.

A few months ago Donovan Beery, designer at Eleven 19 Communications told me that the image I shot for AIGA "voting is sexy poster" was being used in Albania. The image was stolen from the AIGA website and changed in Photoshop to be used in a vote campaign for an organization called MJAFT.

After many months of negotiating the usage, we finally reached a settlement. No I didn't make a million bucks, but they paid a fair usage for the image.

Remember it's not cool to steal work by any artist.
