Wedding | Tanya & Jon

I love the amazing colors from Tanya & Jon's wedding. The wedding was at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha. It was great working with everyone again- last year Andrew, Kameron and I shot Nisha & Joe's wedding (Tanya's sister).

I keep getting asked to post more of photos of Avery. How about 300 of them put to motion by the talented Torchwerker, Jaime O'Bradovich.

Meet our son, Avery Gavin

Well he's finally here! Avery Gavin was born on June 3rd coming in at 7.6 lbs, 20" long.

Here are a few images from the 900 I've shot so far. I figure I better get him use to working the camera from day one!

I'll be taking some time off over the next week, but any urgent matters you can still reach me.

Time to rest.

Lynn & Garrett: Phoenix, AZ

This post is long overdue!

Lynn & Garrett's engagement shoot took place in sunny Arizona and they will be getting married at the Magnolia Hotel next month. The Magnolia is one of my favorites to shoot. Of course I had to bust out my Polaroid for a few frames!

Tortola Behind the Scenes

A few behind the scenes from our trip to Tortola. The video was all shot with the 5D Mark II. If I only had this new GunStock Rig for the shots from the boat.

Stephanie & Peter | Tortola, British Virgin Islands

I'm finally getting around to posting some images from Stephanie & Peter's wedding at Surfsong Resort. Other than loosing one bag and getting locked out of our hotel the trip was awesome.

Be sure to check out the slideshow.

Honored Work

I was honored to receive a few awards at PPA regional print competition. The image of pilot Logan Flood won first place in the non masters men's portrait. Last summer I photographed Logan and his family at their home in Seward, NE for AOPA Magazine. The story was about how he became a commercial pilot after being in an airplane crash with a cargo company he flew and instructed for. My Vintage Bride image of LeeAnn McClain won second place in the wedding category. Both of these images won a Fuji Masterpiece Award.

My overall score with other work placed me at 2nd for the state of Nebraska. You can see my entries in the gallery.

A few thank yous-
Kameron Bayne and Sarah Pfeiffer for pushing me to enter.
Kate Heller for all the magic post work.
Matt Larson for driving to UPS because I sent my prints to the wrong address.
Terry Winslow for connecting with Matt to get my prints in time for the deadline.

My Apple Experience

About 3 weeks ago I started having issues with my MacBook Pro. I needed a new screen as you can see in the pic something major was wrong. I was also having issues with the fan running all the time and with the computer not sleeping it would get super hot.

My 1st stop, was the Apple Store. I explained everything that was up and felt good they would get it fixed. The downside I would be without it for 5 days. I ended up getting my computer back in about 3 and find out it's not fixed.

Apple sends me to a local repair shop for a new logic board. I get it back from them and again not fixed. Ugh! Back on the phone with Apple to find out I need to send it back to them for repair. This time my computer is gone for a full week and of course it's not fixed.

Finally after another hour on the phone I get elevated to "specialist". Because of all the issues and that I bought Apple Care they offered to replace my computer with a brand new one. They originally offered me the base model, but mine was the top of the line so I pushed to get the faster model. Apple Care will only cover an equal machine only, so their claim is the base is better than what I had. Pretty gray territory if you ask me. I spent $3500 back in 2006 for the top of the line and they replaced with a $2800 base model. They did allow me to upgrade to the faster processor and hard drive for $400. I passed at the $1000 upgrade on ram as OWC has a kit for $700 that I can do myself.

I guess for $349 Apple Care is worth it, especially on laptops. However, I do wish Apple would figure out a better way to communicate repairs from 3rd party or retail stores. Most of my time was wasted dealing with them!

Well my new one arrived today and now the joy of migrating. Mike told me about a great app called SuperDuper that works better than Time Machine on restores.

Foto Flo Workshop 2.0

XMP, DNG, Presets, and Catalogs. AHHH. The crew of Malone & Co had their 2nd Lightroom Workshop last Sunday.

Pictured are Mike Malone, Chris Rich, Kerri Garrison, Julie Morris, Kameron Bayne, Geoff Johnson, Megan Nosbish, Ann Luchsinger, Sarah Pfeiffer, and Andrew Marinkovich. Also, not in the photo but attended is Cara Bresette-Yates, and the Torchwerkers.

It was great having everyone out. Don't forget to save your work!

Malcolm Gladwell

Last week I had the chance to photograph Author Malcolm Gladwell. I'm a huge fan of his book The Tipping Point and have yet to read Blink or his latest Outliers.

Malcolm was in town for the YPC Summit as the Keynote Speaker. The crews of Malone & Co and Torchwerks were on set and I got the opportunity to snap a few portraits of him.

I wanted to go simple, so I took the Strobist approach. Most of the time I resort to a Large Chimera Octabank and Dynalites. This time it was 2 Canon 580 EX IIs and the all new Radio Poppers PXs, which worked awesome as I was able to shoot high speed flash sync to knock out the background. I can't wait to use these outside!

Great sunset

Our last night on the islands before we head home. Here's a Fujiroid of my timelapse setup I shot at sunset.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Andrew and I finally made it here. We are now heading over to Surfsong on Beef Island for the days activities. Andrew has none of his clothes as the airline lost his bag. I will only say the airlines initials are "AA". It's supposed on a ferry, but we will be at the wedding so it will be tough to get.

Here's a time lapse from my room this morning. As you can tell it's beautiful here.
I will try to post some images from the wedding tomorrow.

Upcoming Travels

I will be leaving in just over a week for about 10 days on the road. My first stop is Phoenix for an engagement session with Lynn and Garrett.

From there I head to Las Vegas for the WPPI convention. My first time attending was 9 years ago and hadn't been back since last year. It was so refreshing to see all the talent from many different types of photographers. I entered 6 images and 4 of them scored in the print competition. I entered again this year so we'll see what happens. Below is my page from the 2008 Annual Book. After a few days in Vegas, I head to Tortola for Peter & Stephanie's wedding.
